Please welcome LivingRobot to shedding of the ego.
As far as gender relations are concerned, not much has changed since the stone age. He who lives by the sword dies by it. Men fight like animals for female attention, and women oversee the mating game. It is treacherous, but that is how things have worked since before we were monkeys. This sort of competition gives women plausible deniability so they can ignore their part in this game. Men are just ruthless animals who want sex and violence. Women are innocent angels who only want love. This is also the current narrative told by the media. “Alpha males” who engage in childish acts of violence only further this narrative. Men like Bobby Knight act as poster children for the “toxic masculinity” that supposedly infects our culture. Although it is tempting to defend Bobby Knight, we need to resist the urge to complain about feminists and political correctness. Bobby Knight’s antics encourage the flawed narrative that allows feminists and tradcons to take away male rights.
For those of you who don’t know, Bobby Knight was a successful but volatile college basketball coach. He was fired after claims that he choked a student during a practice. This article is a response to “Bobby Knight, Heavy Metal, And The Last Bastion of Men Beating on Their Chests”, but it applies to many similar attempts to enshrine male on male violence.
Bobby Knight was taken down because of his inability to control his temper. His fiery demeanor helped him to motivate the student athletes. His knowledge of basketball helped him to build new strategies. Let’s not get things confused, Bobby Knight was fired because he choked a student. No school wants violence against its students. Perhaps, in simpler times, society was more tolerant of violence, but Indiana University was justified in firing him. Let’s not turn him into the next Jesus Christ.
Men need to stand against violence against men. Few men engage in violence, but apparently “masculine” men are ones that are more violent. By allowing violent men to be symbols of manhood, we are not only encouraging feminists to attack men(who supposedly deserve it), but we are also encouraging boys to model themselves after Bobby Knight. Can’t we idolize computer scientists like Donald Knuth and Alan Turing rather than alpha males like Bobby Knight? Aren’t we scraping the bottom of the barrel by adding Bobby Knight to the list of MGTOW heroes?
Men who voluntarily assume the role of the violent monkey are setting us back. They cheapen violence. Some men get into fights over sports games, traffic, card games, and pretty much everything else. Is it any wonder women want to control them? Is it any wonder that women want personal attack dogs that they can sic on anyone they dislike? Senseless male on male violence reinforces the belief that men are violent animals, and it allows women to wash their hands of problems they created and blame it on male nature.
Bobby Knight’s violent nature makes him an unsuitable role model for MGTOW men. He had many admirable qualities: he was a brilliant strategist, he held his students to high academic standards, and he was good at motivating his players. However, Coach Bobby Knight was a violent man, and he was fired because of this quality. MGTOW should focus on minimizing male on male violence because it cheapens violence itself as well as the suffering that results. In the article I’m responding to, the author specifically mentions scientific discoveries (like electricity). Scientific discoveries are not made by throwing chairs and screaming about game faces, but by years of quiet thought and experimentation. As mankind gets accustomed to the twenty-first century, I hope that men will learn to see themselves as fully conscious and self-aware humans who do not need to engage in violence. I want men to see themselves as human.
